This weekend I thought I would be a good girl and only go to one yard sale. Saturday I went to the “one” and I spent $4.00. I was proud of myself. However, they really didn’t have a lot of things that I wanted. This Eiffel Tower bottle seems to be filled with flavored oil. [...]
I am now living in the Dallas area. I don’t get out and about much and I haven’t been to any yard sales. Near me is CCA which is Christian Community Action in Carrollton, Tx. Each week they have a tag color that is 50% & 75% off. Most items are very reasonable to start [...]
I went to a few thrift stores in Junction City, Kansas. The best deals were at the Disabled American Veterans. What a great little store. I got several things that I have been looking for at a great price. I will show those later. I did get three picture frames to make Jennifer, my daughter, [...]
I can’t seem to help myself. I love the deals. I went to a few sales this weekend. I went to two on Friday. The first one I spent 4.00. I probably would have purchased more but the only cash I had on me was my laundry quarters. I am less likely to spend if I have to leave for cash and come back. Is it worth it? That is a good measure.
I purchased 2 books, a box of self reflection cards and a decanter etched with bamboo. Each item was a dollar.
I got the Wicked paperback at my last sale on Saturday where I got an awesome find I will show you in a moment.
I found these bottles at CCA the other day and I love them. I don’t know what it is with me and bottles that have this type of lid but I love them. Someone originally put their home brew in them. I may use them to make liqueurs but I am not sure yet.
I went to an estate sale after this one. It was after lunch on Friday so it was already broiling. I saw a couple of railroad spikes that I wanted but when I picked them up I threw them back down immediately. Scorching. I ended up getting 3 large storage jars @ 2.00 each, 3 jars with lock down lids @ 1.00 each and 5 Kerr canning jars for .25 each. The large jars are going to get a chalkboard paint treatment. I will show you the pics when I am done. I also purchased 2 baskets. One is bark and has a plastic liner for plants at 1.00 and the other huge long one was 2.50.
Saturday I mapped out a couple of sales and also stopped at two that I passed by. The first was a sale by a decorator. While everything was awesome it was pricier than I could afford to pay. She had lots of lovely antiques and decorator items. I ended up spending 18.00 for knobs. Yep. She made me a deal and sold the whole lot to me for .50 each. They are ceramic and hand painted. I am not in love with some of them and I think I will try my hand at painting them. I also purchased a pair of ceramic finials.
The last sale I went to was one I happened upon. It was awesome. I was wishing I hadn’t purchased the knobs once I was there. This was a moving sale and they had downsized. They entertained a lot so there were a lot of candles, wine glasses and other dishes. This was their second day and I have to wonder what I missed out on by not being there on the first day.
The BEST deal of the day by far are these two wooden Andirondack style chairs that fold flat and have metal scrollwork on them. Weathered and looking pink I believe they were red and then painted with white. I think they must have used acrylic over oil because the paint was coming off like chalk. Still…I love them. I will have to cut down the legs a few inches so my feet will touch the floor. I am thinking I may just put a sealer over them instead of painting. At least for now.
Oh I forgot to tell you……I paid 6.00 each for these. You can’t buy cheap chairs that don’t last a Summer this cheap.
I also purchased 6 pieces of silverware for a project for .50 each. I got 4 pink and 4 purple tealight holders for .25 each. The finials are from the sale where I purchased the knobs. They were 2.00.

This Eiffel Tower bottle seems to be filled with flavored oil. There wasn’t a label so I have no clue if it was meant as decorative or food. I purchased it just for the bottle though. It will go in my bathroom. The pouring spout was a bonus. That will definitely be used in the kitchen.
These two prints were $1.00 each. They aren’t anything special. I believe they are Dollar General merchandise. But…a little pop of color at my door was needed.
These two bracelets were .50 each. One has teacher things and the other has crosses. These will be great for reworking.
I also purchased a package of buttons to cover. There were 6 large ones for .50. I didn’t get a photo of those. So I did a great job of not spending money….until the next day.
I decided to check out this one sale on Sunday because they mentioned bookshelves. What a score. They had a large table with everything for a dollar. Then the young lady told me that whatever I put in a bin she gave me would be $10.00. The first thing I spotted were these William Sonoma canisters.
The canisters and all of the following were $10.00. Awesome.
And the reason I went to this sale was for a book shelf. I got this for 20.00 plus 5.00 to deliver. I was worried that it was going to dwarf my apartment. It actually seems to make it feel bigger.
Whew. Loved it. But now I am broke……. I know I didn’t spend much but my budget doesn’t leave much room for additional purchases.
Baby girl bought a print of my name in Japanese when she was in Seattle a few years ago. I finally decided to do something with it.
I was supposed to put some of my photography in a gallery and ended up not being able to. I had purchased inexpensive frames on sale at Michaels.
A couple of years ago someone listed free wallpaper books on Craigslist. I snagged them. Love them. I decided to use the edge of a border to frame my name print. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough of the blue and had to go with the red one.
I cut a piece of card stock and glued my print to it. The print is on thin paper and I didn’t want the black poster board of my background to interfere with my print.
So once I put it all together I realized my 45 degree cuts were not perfect and matching up. I took some of my jewelry findings, a coin and fan and glued them to cover the oops.
Have a great day everyone………

Yesterday I decided to see what might be new. They were having a $10.00 bag sale on all clothes. I didn’t participate in that because I don’t normally find things to wear in places like this and I don’t need any more fabric right now. Fortunately they also had a color that was 90% off. Yeah baby. My kind of sale. Most things I purchased we be repurposed. You have to look at things to see if they can be used in another way.
This matted and framed print is not my thing. The frame is in good shape but I really purchased it for the 3 mats that are in it. Frames can be rather expensive so when looking at thrift stores and yard sales keep that in mind and see what you can find.
This fabric covered memo/photo board is ugly and dirty. I have a bunch of great fabric from a yardsale last year where I paid .25 per yard. This is going to look marvelous when I am done.
I have been wanting to get shrinky dinks that I could print on with my ink jet. They are rather pricy. What a score.
I love these cute prints. If I decide I don’t want to use the prints then the frames can used for a shadow box project.
These will be great when I have to get on my knees for projects.
These coasters are so cute. I wouldn’t have known what they were if I hadn’t seen one in a picture on facebook.
I love this wallpaper. I am not going to use it on walls of course. It will be used on other projects. Lining a box or covering one.
I found this swag light fixture. I don’t even know if it works. Even if I have to buy new fixtures it is still a great deal. I know it is ugly right now but wait until I get hold of it with a can of spray paint.
Last week I bought this cabinet. I had looked at it the week before when it was marked down 50%. It was priced at 49.99 but I still didn’t want to pay 25.00 for it. I decided to go back last week and see if it was still there knowing if it was it would be 75% off. It was there. Woo Hoo. I don’t know if I am going to jazz this up to sell or keep this as a work station and storage for my crafts. I don’t have a studio since I live in an apartment.
I will be posting the results of makeovers soon. I can’t believe it has been almost a year since I last posted. Bad Blogger. I promise to do better.
The economy is really awful these days. Most of us have been affected by it. Some more than others. My friend Kathy and her husband are one of those couples having a very difficult time. Kathy’s husband has a bad heart that has gotten worse. He has 8 blockages, diabetes and other issues. He needs to have a pacemaker and is on many types of medications. Kathy is taking care of him full time in addition to her having Graves disease. They live in a family members basement and their vehicle has died. They are trying to get disability but it has been 10 months and nothing has been approved yet. Many people wait years to get approved. They have absolutly zero dollars coming in.

I went to a few thrift stores in Junction City, Kansas. The best deals were at the Disabled American Veterans. What a great little store. I got several things that I have been looking for at a great price. I will show those later. I did get three picture frames to make Jennifer, my daughter, things to hang her jewelry on.
This first frame was $3.00 without glass. The glass wasn’t needed for this project at all. It had a backing that was hard pressed board. I painted the frame black, removed the mat board, covered the backing in batting and then with fabric. I put the back into the frame and then tightened the fabric. I then hot glued the fabric to the back. I purchased sets of fleur de lis hangers from Wal-Mart at 1.37 for 3 and got four sets. I also used a stencil and acrylic paint for the chandelier design. I wish I could have gotten one more set of the hooks but they only had four. The fabric was 2.47 for one yard. The stencils were 2.87 and have 8 different cards in the package and will be used for many more projects.
This small round frame cost $1.00. I had the tiny hardware cloth already and the fabric left over from the larger frame. I painted the hardware cloth and stenciled the fabric. I also painted the inner ring on the front of the frame because it was brown. I used the back mat on the frame to cut the hardware cloth and then inserted it into the frame. I carefully wrapped my fabric over the glass and placed it in next. With the ends of the fabric I was able to move it around until I had it exactly where I wanted it. I then trimmed the edges and placed the mat in the back and secured it with the screw that came with it. Since I used leftovers for this project it only cost me the amount of the frame. $1.00.
This next project is probably my favorite. I have had this fabric for a long time and wanted to use it for something special. This project only took a small amount of my fabric. I cut the larger hardware cloth to fit using the mat and then painted it. I sprayed the glass with glue and stuck my fabric on and trimmed it. If I were to do this over again I would have also used fray check. My fabric started fraying but I didn’t have any fray check glue with me. I slid in the hardware cloth, slid in the fabric covered glass and then put the back in. I absolutely love how this turned out. Again this project only cost the amount of the frame. $1.00. I love it.
I hope you enjoyed my projects and that it inspires you to look at old items differently. Repurposing is a great way to economize and be green. And in this case, make your daughter very happy. : )
I know I have lost a tomato plant or two and sunflowers as well thanks to Beaux. He is just a baby marmaduke and doesn’t know what he is doing. He likes to walk in spaces like the edge of the brick patio or inside my garden. He will walk along the retaining wall. Just like a kid. I miss that big baby.
Now I have to sweet talk my sister into going to the garden and getting rid of the suckers on the tomato plants.
Recently I went to Hobby Lobby and they had a 90% off section. Wow. I loaded up. I didn’t get pictures of everything but some of it will show up in my shop when it opens.
I got many more awesome deals at Hobby Lobby, Goodwill and just junkin. When I get back home from traveling I will have more pictures. I can’t wait to show you some before and after pictures. Slowly moving towards getting my store open. Fingers crossed.
